The Gallery

Newcastle, New South Wales, is a city that embodies the spirit of creativity and innovation. Among its many cultural treasures, Cstudios stands out as a light-filled inner-city gallery that not only showcases contemporary and fine art but also serves as a hub for the burgeoning creative community. Nestled amidst a tapestry of restaurants, cafes, parks, educational institutions, and other artistic spaces, Cstudios is more than just a gallery; it is a vital part of Newcastle’s dynamic cultural landscape.

One of the most striking features of Cstudios design, is the natural light to create an inviting atmosphere for both artists and visitors. This intentional design choice enhances the viewing experience, allowing artworks to be seen in their truest form. The interplay of light and shadow within the gallery invites contemplation and dialogue, encouraging visitors to engage deeply with the artworks on display. Whether it is a thought-provoking contemporary piece or a classic fine art work, the environment of Cstudios elevates the experience of art appreciation, making it an essential destination for locals and tourists alike.

Cstudios regularly hosts exhibitions that reflect the diverse talents of artists from Newcastle and beyond. These exhibitions not only spotlight established artists but also serve as a platform for emerging talents to showcase their work. The gallery’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity fosters a sense of community among artists, allowing them to collaborate, share ideas, and inspire one another. This ethos is critical in a city like Newcastle, known for its rich creative community, which thrives on collaboration and mutual support.

The surrounding area of Cstudios further enriches its role in the community. With restaurants and cafes offering a variety of culinary delights, visitors can enjoy a meal or a coffee before or after their gallery experience, creating a holistic cultural outing. Parks and coastal views nearby provide a serene space for reflection and relaxation, allowing visitors to contemplate the art they have just viewed. Additionally, educational institutions in the vicinity contribute to the gallery’s vibrancy, as students and educators frequently engage with the exhibits, fostering a culture of learning and exploration.

HunterRoomExhibits0114Gallery Director

Jo Chisholm-Ray

Jo established the gallery in 2013 with a vision to bring contemporary and fine art to the evolving, edgy West End of Newcastle. The gallery was formally housed within the former Bellevue Hotel, an historic hotel dating back to 1885, and we are now located at 518 Hunter Street in Newcastle. This light-filled gallery has large wall spaces which provide plenty of display options for artists. Complimented by movable pieces including partitions, plinths and easy hanging system for all works. Cstudios exhibits 2D, 3D, digital, contemporary and fine art across all formats. We support all career levels and showcase works of local, national and international artists.
