Gallery Director
Jo Chisholm-Ray
Jo established the gallery in 2013 with a vision to bring contemporary and fine art to the evolving, edgy West End of Newcastle. The gallery is housed within the former Bellevue Hotel, an historic hotel dating back to 1885 and located on the corner of Hunter and Bellevue Streets. Jo worked long hours to completely renovate the interior, transforming the derelict old pub into a spacious light-filled gallery. We have two main rooms, known as the ‘Hunter’ and the ‘Bellevue’ both with large wall and floor spaces which provide plenty of display options for artists. These spaces are complimented by movable pieces including partitions, plinths and seating. Cstudios exhibits 2D, 3D, digital, contemporary and fine art across all formats: paintings, photography, pottery, sculpture, and jewellery. We support both mid-career and emerging artists and also showcase the works of local, national and international artists. The gallery also contains a number of collection pieces.
Opportunities
Attention Artists! We are now taking submissions for solo and group show bookings for 2016 and 2017. For further information and to apply please visit our Become An Exhibitor page.
Our Community
We are part of the evolution and change in the West End precinct and a proud part of the creative community which makes this part of Newcastle its home. The gallery is located on the banks of Cottage Creek and Jo has worked in partnership with Landcare NSW and Hunter Water to clean and rehabilitation of this vital urban waterway. We also offer historical tours of the surrounding area. Learn more about the West End at the Newcastle Now website or Newcastle West End Facebook page. We also recommend Kimberly O’Sullivan’s fantastic blog called West End Adventures.
